Sowing Seeds of Gratitude – A Fall Garden Festival

Join Mosaic for a three-part celebration of fall’s bounty. Share a harvest meal and learn about the natural cycle of growing and seed saving.

A Harvest Festival at Camp Sunshine on Ward’s Island will kick off the festivities on September 25th! Spend the day exploring Toronto Island Park, learn about the natural environment, and participate in hands-on garden demonstrations.

Participants will leave the Harvest Festival with seed balls and garlic bulbs to plant at home. Two follow-up workshops, held online, will walk you through how to get planting this fall.

Limited spots available for this special three-part festival! Registration closes on September 15th! Free event for seniors made possible by TD Park People Grants.

Please note that registered participants are intended to participate in all three workshop sessions.

Participants will receive their garden supplies at the first workshop which will be necessary to participate in the following Zoom workshops.

Dates/Time/Location:

  • Harvest Festival with Camp Sunshine Centres for Seniors(Ward’s Island, Toronto Island Park)
    • Monday, September 25th from 10:45 a.m. – 3:00pm.  Ferry departs from Jack Layton Ferry Terminal (Queens Quay) at 10:30am
    • Seed Saving and Seed Ball Making with Blooming Caravan (Zoom) Monday, October 2nd from 10:00am – 11:00am
    • Grow Your Own Garlic with Blooming Caravan (Zoom) Monday, October 16th from 10:00am – 11:00am

Important Information:

  • Harvest Festival on Wards Island (September 25th)
    • What is happening at Ward’s Island?
      • Upon your arrival to Ward’s Island, we will head to Camp Sunshine for live planting demonstrations, walking tours and interactive activities
      • You will receive your gardening supplies that will be necessary to participate in the following Zoom workshops on October 2nd and 16th
      • Lunch, snacks and refreshments will be provided at this event
    • How to get to Ward’s Island?
      • The Harvest Festival with Camp Sunshine will begin at 11:00 on Ward’s Island. The best ferry to take will depart at 10:30am from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal (9 Queens Quay W, Toronto). Mosaic and Camp Sunshine staff will be onsite to direct you along the way.
      • Mosaic will cover the cost of the Ferry. Please look for the staff member at the entrance to sign in and receive your ticket.
      • The event will end at 2:30pm, and participants will be able to take the 2:45pm Ferry home.

    • Zoom Workshops (October 2nd and October 16th)
      • The following Zoom workshops on October 2nd and October 16th will involve learning how to plant and harvest the seedlings you received at the Ward’s Island event
      • You will receive the Zoom link for these workshops one week before the meeting, and a reminder the morning on the meeting, along with instructions of what to have with you
    • Other Information
      • Participants are intended to participate in all three workshops, both in person and online
      • If you do not attend the Harvest Festival on Ward’s Island you may join the Zoom workshops, however you will be unable to receive your garden supplies.
      • Please bring a reusable water bottle that can be filled using the water stations on site
      • This is a rain or shine event, please dress accordingly
